The 2011 TES Horsemanship Certification Program

Horsemanship is about much more than just learning to ride. It’s about developing and maintaining happy, healthy, and sound horses. At TES, we are committed to teaching riders to become true horsemen — both in and out of the saddle.  That's why we're proud to offer our new Horsemanship Certification program. This 10-session lecture series educates riders on a range of topics that are essential to proper horse care.

From feeding to saddle fit, from first aid to hoof care, the TES Horsemanship Certification Series will teach you how to better care for your equine partners. Whether you own your own horse or aspire to one day, and regardless of your riding ability, you will benefit from the wealth of knowledge available through the program.

Each 60-minute seminar combines a classroom lecture with live demonstrations inside the TES stable. Seminars are led by experienced, working professionals in the equine industry, and include written materials to take home. All of the TES Horsemanship Certification sessions can be purchased individually, or sign up for the entire 10-session course at a discount. Students who complete all 10 sessions will receive a certificate of completion and a free group riding lesson!

The Los Angeles Equestrian Center on Wednesday was transformed into a classroom for 27 R. D. White Elementary School students who took a lesson in equestrian lingo, tacking techniques and horseback riding.

"They are so pretty," said Jessica Galan, 8. "I like the color of them. And I like that they are so gentle, you don't have to worry that they will get angry or bite you."
The participating students are all part of the R.D. White Early Educational Extended Learning Program (EEELP), which serves working parents by providing a structured learning environment for children during after school hours and on district student-free days.

Head teacher Linda Makarzec developed a horse-related lesson plan for the students upon their request. They were inspired, she said, after reading several horse-related books, including "Black Beauty." And their interest continues to grow, she said.

Students have studied the history of the horse as it relates to developments in agriculture and transportation, as well as sport and leisure activities, Makarzec said.

TES Introduces Tiny Tot Lessons for our Smallest Riders

Beginning in January TES will be offering Tiny Tot lessons for 4 and 5 year old children interested in learning about horses and riding. Priced the same as our regular junior privates, the half hour private lessons will be conducted on a lead line or longe line (at the instructor's discretion) and include games, obstacle courses and other fun activities along with basic horsemanship. These lessons are designed to introduce young riders to horses in a safe, controlled environment.
